The first thing I thought when I found a picture of dad and me from 1988 was, “Perfect for Throwback Thursday!” After that I contemplated several things: how my father still looked the same to me, how I still looked the same to me and how I so easily recognized our faces.
My children on the other hand didn’t recognize either one of us immediately. They stared at the photo intently and then asked if I was going to post it on Instagram. I laughed, of-course I was going to post it on Instagram! But not until Thursday! C’mon kids get with the times!
But why Throwback Thursday?
I mean who started it?
Why do I follow it so dearly so much that I think of it when I find a dear picture?
After a tad of research most sources agree that TBT comes from the blog nicekicks.com which started the trend July 2006 when it began featuring photos of old popular shoes. As a side note the blog nicekicks.com does in fact have nice kicks and if you are anything like me you will enjoy it and realize your next purchase will be sneakers.
I also read a bunch of other things about TBT and realized that what would matter most was a bit of introspection. I think it is safe to say that most of the time a bit of introspection is what matters most anyway. Why do I love Throwback Thursday? Simple, I love Throwback Thursday because it gives reason to celebrate past memories with joy in the present moment. I think this is a sweet spot and a sweet thing to do. Simple as that and now I know where it started and am determined to buy that pair of sweet kicks!
As William Shakespeare said, “What is past is prologue.”
All the love,
